Unlike many other books, this one is not a coffee table book with pretty pictures, but is jam-packed with well researched information based on decades of building experience. A must read!

The Humanure Handbook, by Joseph Jenkins, is first on this list for a reason. If you plan to have a composting toilet in your house, this is THE must-read book on the subject. Learn how it works and how to do it safely with no smell! I personally gained a lot from this book and highly recommend it!

You Can Buy Happiness (and it's Cheap) by Tammy Strobel is a great overview of the potential benefits of tiny living. It chronicles her journey towards finding happiness in a tiny home and infuses the story with examples from friends and colleagues as well. I've read this book and highly recommend it!
Tiny House Floor Plans is one of the first and best tiny house design books. Michael Janzen offers 230 different interior designs (floorplans) for tiny houses, ranging in size from 8x12' to 12'x24'. This is a great resource when brainstorming your perfect layout!
One of the original tiny house "eye candy" books, Lloyd Kahn's Tiny Homes Simple Shelter is chocked-full of large images of all kinds of tiny houses, cabins, tree houses and other amazing small homes and shelters. I have this book and highly recommend it!
