The Tiny Project is moving to Austin (I need your help)!

Hi friends! I’m in need of your help! In a very quick turn of events (a woman, of course), I’ve decided to pack up and move the tiny house to Austin, TX. In order to get my tiny house out of it’s current (potentially soggy) spot before NorCal rainy season hits, I have to act fast. So, I’m looking for a place to park/live in Austin starting as early as November 1st. Please, please share this post with your friends and help me find a spot to call home for this next, big life adventure! I can’t do this alone! […]

Our Tiny House Towing Adventure: Part One

Pulling out of our Fairfield, Iowa driveway at 7am on a cool, drizzly morning, I was filled with an appropriate mix of excitement and apprehension. After a year of pouring my heart and soul into designing and building a tiny house from scratch, our week-long tiny house move was just beginning. Now was the time to make this little house our real home – but to do this we had to get it half way across the country! Editor’s Note: This post is edited from an original version written for the Tiny House Magazine many months ago. It’s long, so […]

The Big Move! – and a much needed blog update…

Dear Tiny Project readers, It’s been a while, and for that a apologize. As it turns out, getting a house finished and preparing to move it, all your possessions, as well as your girlfriend and dog half way across the country is quite a lot of work. I only have time for this update because we are currently stuck in Amarillo, Texas, due to a large winter storm that has made almost all of I40 very dangerous to drive–all the way from Oklahoma to Arizona is under some amount of snow or ice. So today is a rest from travel, […]

Heading West – How you can contribute

Welcome new and existing visitors. Whether you saw us at the open house or found us online, we hope our house has been a source of inspiration. We’re about to embark on our long haul West — headed to Sebastopol, CA! We welcome any and all contributions with open arms (and paws). Any donations will go towards gas and RV park fees during our week+ road trip. Thank you! (You can also donate at any time in the future through the donate button on top right of each page of this site.)

Porch decking!

Cedar siding and a test-run tiny house move

There’s been a lot of visible progress in the last couple weeks. Here’s a quick recap: Once the metal panels were done, I had an amazing local woodworker (Duncan MacMaster — amazing guy, incredibly skilled and experienced) get started on the cedar siding while the house was still in its warehouse location. It was incredibly excited to get some cedar on the walls. I could start to see the fruition of my planning and materials resourcing coming together before my eyes! I won’t get into all the details here, but I had been waiting almost 2 months for my replacement […]
