Last summer I was honored to have a Japanese film crew (and my friend, Gabriel Craft of Small and Tiny Home Ideas) over to my tiny house for a video interview as part of the forthcoming SIMPLIFE Tiny House Documentary. The filmmakers have recently released several short teaser interviews, and you can watch mine below. For more SIMPLIFE teasers, check out their vimeo page.
It’s been two years in the making, but Small is Beautiful: A Tiny House Documentary is finally here! This isn’t the first documentary on Tiny Houses, but it’s definitely unique. Here’s what Jeremy Beasley, the director, had to say: I wasn’t aiming to glorify tiny house living. I explored what it is really like to build and live in a tiny house, sharing the subjects struggle and triumphs – and their real life journey through it. I wanted the film to go deeper than trends or aesthetic. I wanted it to be courageous and vulnerable. To explore the real human aspect living tiny.” We were very fortunate […]
Editor’s Note: I’m happy to introduce to you my friends Jillian and Chad who are currently building a tiny house in Sebastopol, CA. Below you’ll find a great video tour and interview with them, a photo gallery of their house in progress, and a bit of their story of going tiny. Please follow them (links below) and support them on their tiny house journey! We are both “Sebastopolians” out of Sebastopol, CA. We are individuals who both enjoy the outdoors including supporting the environment around us. Over the last couple years we have become more knowledgeable on how to maintain […]
My partner, Anjali, and I recently had the honor of pre-screening the much-anticipated Small is Beautiful: A Tiny House Documentary by Jeremy Beasley. I loved it so much that I HAD to write a review and share this all with you! First off, if you haven’t see the trailer yet, take a peek below. [social_share] My review: 5 stars! After seeing the film myself, I can say with certainty that it’s the best tiny house documentary to date! It’s beautifully filmed and edited, but that’s not what makes it special. What got me is that the characters are REAL, their […]
Thank you Maria and Morton of GoDownsize.com for this very personal, real-life portrait of our life in a tiny house. They were both a lot of fun to talk to about living small and going through the downsizing process (they’re doing the same as well, so cheers to that!). It was a pleasure! Enjoy the video… If you are interested in getting the tour of the house, you can go to 24:26 in the video, where Alek shows us around. The house is so beautiful and well thought through in every way. You can see the house and meet them […]
I try not to look at comments too much (especially not on youtube!), but with our Faircompanies video tour and interview getting a lot of views, I couldn’t help myself. There were a lot of positive comments and of course some really nasty ones too. But what I found most interesting was the sheer number of comments about the now infamous “pee jar” or “poop bucket.” The most popular comments all when something like this: “OMG, a pee jar in the loft. That’s so gross. That guy is a terrible person.” Yes, a pee jar. That’s correct. I have a […]
Today is a very special day and we couldn’t be more excited! Anjali and I are so incredibly appreciative of Kirtsten for spending the time filming at our house, and for all the hours of editing needed to create this wonderful 23 minutes video tour of our tiny home. Thank you, Kirsten! She got us talking about all kinds of great topics, and we LOVE the way it turned out! For those of you who haven’t seen Kirsten’s work, she’s amassed a HUGE number of AMAZING videos on tiny houses, alternative living, self-sufficiency, DIY projects, etc. Check out her website […]
Our open house this past Sunday was a huge success! Over 35 people attended, not including a few kids and a dog. Every one was very excited about the house (and tiny houses in general) and full of questions and enthusiasm. Many were planning to build their own tiny house soon, and a few were already living in a tiny house. On top of that, we had a special guest: Jay Shafer, father of the tiny house movement, brought his entire family (wife and two kids) to the open house. He stayed the entire time, and answered many of the […]
I recently had the pleasure taking part in Alex Cequea’s video interview series called The A-List. The A-List purpose is to “interview innovators who are making the world a better place.” We talked for about 25 minutes about building a tiny house and living the tiny house life. Alex tells me the interview will also be posted on the Good Men Project website in a couple weeks. Thank you, Alex!
