My friend and fellow tiny houser, Laura LaVoie of Life in 120 Square Feet, recently wrote a good post expanding on an article that may mislead some about the true cost of tiny houses and small living. Here’s what happened: Laura and I (plus some other tiny house greats, like Lina Menard and Christopher Carson Smith) were contacted by the Lauren Modery (writing for GOOD magazine) for research into tiny house (and tiny living) costs. She asked some great questions about how much our houses cost and what our cost of living was like now that we’ve been living tiny […]
Last summer I was honored to have a Japanese film crew (and my friend, Gabriel Craft of Small and Tiny Home Ideas) over to my tiny house for a video interview as part of the forthcoming SIMPLIFE Tiny House Documentary. The filmmakers have recently released several short teaser interviews, and you can watch mine below. For more SIMPLIFE teasers, check out their vimeo page.
I’m really excited to finally be able to announce the launch of the Tiny House Collaborative. 6 dear friends and I are out to change the world of housing — to create a shift towards more sustainable, well designed, human-scale dwellings. Here’s a bit of our story and what we hope to accomplish. If you’re interested in talking with us, please use the contact form at https://www.tinyhousecollaborative.com/consulting/ How it Started We all met at the 2015 Tiny House Jamboree and instantly came to the same conclusion. There was so much excitement and possibility in the tiny house movement — so […]
Thank you Maria and Morton of GoDownsize.com for this very personal, real-life portrait of our life in a tiny house. They were both a lot of fun to talk to about living small and going through the downsizing process (they’re doing the same as well, so cheers to that!). It was a pleasure! Enjoy the video… If you are interested in getting the tour of the house, you can go to 24:26 in the video, where Alek shows us around. The house is so beautiful and well thought through in every way. You can see the house and meet them […]
Today is a very special day and we couldn’t be more excited! Anjali and I are so incredibly appreciative of Kirtsten for spending the time filming at our house, and for all the hours of editing needed to create this wonderful 23 minutes video tour of our tiny home. Thank you, Kirsten! She got us talking about all kinds of great topics, and we LOVE the way it turned out! For those of you who haven’t seen Kirsten’s work, she’s amassed a HUGE number of AMAZING videos on tiny houses, alternative living, self-sufficiency, DIY projects, etc. Check out her website […]
Michael Hulleman of Hobo with a Laptop is starting to amass some pretty great interviews with some amazing tiny house people. He recently shared his interview with my favorite tiny house couple Gabriella and Andrew Morrison, and just today posted a similar interview with myself. In some areas, this interview is more in-depth than what I’ve written on my blog, so I really wanted to share it here as an additional resource. Many of these questions and answers will help give you a better understanding our house, and will hopefully provide some insight into our tiny house lives now that […]
As the winner of the “On Wheels” category of the 2014 Small Space, Big Dreams Home Awards, we’ve got ourselves a two page spread in the September 2014 issue of the magazine. Go out and get your copy of Sunset to read our exclusive interview. Yay! I want to give a big thank you to Sue, Tom, Joanna, Jess and the entire Sunset crew for a fun day of shooting and the satisfaction of seeing our beautiful home in print! Proud day! Below are some images from the photoshoot, kindly shared by Sunset.
I recently had the pleasure taking part in Alex Cequea’s video interview series called The A-List. The A-List purpose is to “interview innovators who are making the world a better place.” We talked for about 25 minutes about building a tiny house and living the tiny house life. Alex tells me the interview will also be posted on the Good Men Project website in a couple weeks. Thank you, Alex!
Below you will find a large set of photos of both the interior and exterior of the finished house. Unlike some other tiny house photos you may see elsewhere on the itnerwebs, these photos have been taken of our house that has now been lived in full-time for over a month by myself, my girlfriend and our small dog. I certainly cleaned and tidied up a lot, but this is what a real lived-in tiny house actually looks like, not a just-finished showroom piece. Enjoy! I’m happy to announce that the Tiny Project was featured in the new “Readers Corner” section of this month’s Tiny House Magazine. In the article, I talk about what made me decide to build a tiny house, why my house is different, and some of the challenges and rewards of designing and building my own tiny house.
